Hello, I’m Tim!

I bring over twenty years of experience in Learning & Development and general HR support roles in Japan. Throughout my career in Human Resources and Development, I’ve had the opportunity to work across a range of industries in Japan, including medical & pharma, television shopping, broadcasting, marketing, and IT/Tech. These diverse experiences have given me valuable insights into not only the business dynamics of these markets but, more importantly, the human side—how organizations operate and how employees collaborate to achieve their goals.

Having lived in Japan for over thirty years and being fluent in both English and Japanese, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a communication bridge between Japanese and American cultures. This experience has given me deep insights into how people from both backgrounds work, communicate, and set expectations.

One recurring theme I’ve observed is the frustration experienced by Japanese managers. Despite being proficient in English, many struggled to communicate effectively with their predominantly Western counterparts. On the other hand, non-Japanese leaders often expressed confusion and disappointment with their local Japanese teams.

These challenges aren’t purely language-related, though language proficiency may play a role. Instead, there appears to be behavioral and cultural bottlenecks that misalign with the expectations of both sides.

My vision for Communication Makeover is to be the ‘go-to’ resource for managers and aspiring leaders seeking expert communication training and personalized coaching. My goal is to serve as the bridge between cultures, providing transformative support that goes beyond typical training programs, empowering individuals to reach their personal and professional goals.
